About the Course
The Surgery Committee established the Basic Science Course in 1979. The course is designed to assist the resident surgeon in acquiring a thorough and current understanding of the basic sciences as they apply to the surgeon.
The course is intended to prepare the resident for an increasing emphasis on the Basic Science aspects of the ABSITE and the Qualifying Examination of the American Board of Surgery.
The lecture series on basic science will use the textbook, Physiologic Basis of Surgery, 4th Edition by J. Patrick O'Leary, MD. In addition to attending the lectures, the resident is responsible for reading the assigned chapters in the textbook as well as taking a post-test for applicable lectures.
Target Audience
